Dresden is a magnet for many visitors, both domestic and foreign. Their numbers grow every year.  The capital of Saxony is richly fascinating for both business travellers and tourists alike with its many museums, colleges and vocational schools, historical buildings and residing high-tech firms.

World-renowned structures like the Frauenkirche (“Church of Our Lady”), the Zwinger, the Royal Palace, the Semper Opera and the Hygiene Museum attract millions of visitors every year. However, the nearby areas surrounding Dresden have countless wonderful attractions, too: the Karl May Museum in Radebeul as well as the Palaces of Moritzburg and Pillnitz, just to mention a few.

Party town

Over the course of the last few years Dresden has turned out to be the most diverse party metropolis throughout the whole of Saxony.

Every style is present as Dresden’s inhabitants enjoy the many different parties throughout the summer.  Outdoor discos, chillout events on the banks of the Elbe or night-time river cruises on a disco ship.  And in winter there are over 40 clubs in this city.

Saxon switzerland

Another big visitor magnet for the Freestate of Saxony is the Saxon Switzerland with its many attractions.  Whether you visit the Fortress Königstein, the Bastei with the ruins of Castle Neurathen, the stage on the cliffs of Rathen or take a trip on a steamer from the Elbe’s White Fleet, one vacation simply is not enough to see it all.

Meissen

Meissen, situated not too far from Dresden, offers besides the world famous porcelain manufacture the also well known Castle Albrechtsburg. In September there is a popular wine festival, where all vineyards open their doors to guest and you can taste wine to your heart’s content.

Ore mountains

Before the gates of Dresden lies the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) with its centuries old traditions and history of mining and woodcarving crafts to be experienced. Visit the Toy Village Seiffen with its world famous Toy Museum and Open-air Museum Seiffen.

Freiberg

A further excursions destination is the city of Freiberg, known as the home of the internationally highly acclaimed Mining Academy Freiberg. However, the high point of the visit would have to be the Mining Museum of Freiberg, where one can learn more about the historic development of mining in the Ore Mountains as well as the lives of the miners both past and present.
